Quartzite, not to be confused with man-made quartz, is one of nature’s most precious stones. It’s durability, beauty and timelessness make it the perfect choice for your stone countertops. Most quartzites are ranked slightly harder than granite on the Moh’s Scale of Mineral Hardness therefore scratches should not be an issue. It can vary in porosity making some more resistance to staining than others so quick clean up on spills and sealing once a year is a good idea.
Soft Quartzite’s are only slightly harder than marble. When selecting your material ask your supplier or fabricator to clarify. If you are a gourmet chef or really want low maintenance counters the soft quartzite may not be for you.
Quartzite offers a depth and vibrancy that rivals no other type of stone. If you want a stone that is different than what you normally see then quartzite might be a great choice for you.
